In this edition, we’re calling on business people and investors to have their say on a fresh initiative designed to support investment in new luxury hotels on the Sunshine Coast.
Council is seeking feedback on the introduction of a “Temporary Local Planning Instrument” (TLPI) which has provisions to encourage development of upscale hotels. These short-term provisions will only apply to a limited number of locations where hotels are already intended.
Feedback is due at 5pm on Tuesday 8 October 2024.
Council has already approved an initial incentive package as part of its new Accommodation Hotel Incentives Strategic Policy. The TLPI is part of a second tranche of incentives that will further strengthen the opportunity for potential investors.
Incentives are designed to encourage development of four and five-star hotels in specific areas.
Right now, four-star hotels make up 34 per cent of the Sunshine Coast’s accommodation options, while five-star hotels only account for one per cent. This demand situation presents opportunities for hotel developers wanting to build and partner with luxury brands, including international names.
All business people are encouraged to have their say.
I hope you enjoy catching up on news about the Sunshine Coast's business and investment landscape. As always, please feel free to contact me if you'd like to know more about doing business on the Sunshine Coast.
