Hi there

As we wrap up the year, let’s take a moment to look back at some of the standout moments in 2025 for business and investment on the Sunshine Coast.

There were plenty of headlines during the year but one of the most impressive would have to be the landmark partnership announced between Google, NEXTDC and Sunshine Coast Council to deliver a second submarine broadband cable to the Maroochydore City Centre.

Part of Google’s Australia Connect initiative, the new Tabua subsea cable landed last month and will enable faster, more reliable data for businesses on the Sunshine Coast and throughout Queensland.

The announcement sparked strong investor interest and was marked by a sold out event called Tech in Paradise – The Google Factor, which attracted more than 150 tech leaders, investors and digital innovators, including from Google and NEXTDC.

Building on the momentum of improved digital service delivery, Sunshine Coast Council launched Data Connect, Australia's only council-led “data marketplace”. Council also hosted a Geospatial Intelligence ideation session in partnership with industry.

Economic confidence was further reinforced with the release of the Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) 2024-25 Annual Report, highlighting a resilient economy with a GRP of $26.33 billion and 21.5% of goods and services exported outside the region.

Please read on for links to some of the top stories from the year, including:
